Last time, we talked about what “living well” means.
It reminds me of the unique experience I had last year.
I joined a local tennis club in the neighborhood.
I had never played tennis before, but the advanced players in the club taught me how to play.
After my second lesson, the tennis club captain asked me if I would be interested in joining the tennis tournament with another player in the club.
I was surprised to hear that because I was still terrible at tennis.
I barely hit the ball. I didn’t even know the game rules.
I was hesitant.
I was scared.
What if people laughed at me?
What would they say about me?
At the same time, I was curious.
What would it be like to participate in the tournament with a partner?
Most of my friends said I was crazy to even think about it, considering I just started less than a month ago.
After all, I signed up for it.
I lost every set and every game, not surprisingly.
Yet I have zero regrets.
In fact, I had an absolute blast.
I made a lot of new friends.
It motivated me to learn more.
I also got much closer with my team members cheering for each other.
My goal was never to win it.
My goal was to simply experience it.
I am glad I signed up for the tournament.
No one cared if I lost or won because they cared about their own games and scores.
I was proud of myself for listening to my inner voice and having this unique experience.
Fast forward one year:
I participated in the same tournament with the same partner—and won one set!
Winning a single set might not mean much to most people, but for us it was huge.
We truly enjoyed ourselves being in the moment.
Enjoying the moment, having fun with good company, is the essence of living well for me.
